BIS Hallmark is an official purity certification for gold jewellery in India. It confirms that the jewellery has been tested and marked by a recognised assaying centre.
Check the BIS logo, purity mark such as 22K916 or 18K750, and the six-character HUID. You can also ask the jeweller to explain the hallmark before billing.
Karat shows gold purity. 24K is pure gold, 22K is 91.6% pure gold, and 18K is 75% pure gold mixed with other metals for strength.
HUID is a unique identification code for a hallmarked jewellery item. It improves traceability and helps customers verify authenticity with better confidence.
Hallmarked jewellery usually gives better resale confidence because purity is clearly marked and easier to verify during valuation.
Look for clear BIS, purity, and HUID markings. Avoid unclear stamps, missing HUID details, unusually low pricing, or sellers who cannot explain the hallmark.
